Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila is a historical upazila. Here is the abode of Gunijan like Bir Isha Khan, Chandrabati. Nandail upazila to the north, Katiadi and Pakundia upazilas to the south, Karimganj upazila and Tarail upazila to the east, Hossainpur and Nandail upazilas to the west. Kishoreganj Sadar upazila consists of 11 unions and one first class municipality. This upazila belongs to the 9th agro-ecological zone. Narsunda has flowed through this upazila which was once a stream, today it is almost dead. There are many small and big canal bills.
At one time a lot of jute and sugarcane was produced in this upazila. There were many markets for jute. In the evolution of time, it has disappeared and taken over the Ufshi variety of paddy.
At present jute cultivation is increasing again. In this upazila a lot of vegetables are planted in Mohinanda, Maizkhapan and Maria Union. Paddy is cultivated in about 6,800 hectares in Aus season, about 10,600 hectares in Aman season and 6,900 hectares in Boro season. Besides, cultivation of other crops is also increasing day by day. However, the cultivation of vegetables, pulses, oil, spices and maize is increasing day by day during Rabi season.
Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila Department of Agricultural Extension is making important contribution in modern farming by training many farmers under various projects.
There are 34 agricultural blocks in this upazila and the concerned Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officers are playing an active role in bringing modern agricultural technology to the doorsteps of the farmers and playing a special role in grain production. It is hoped that through the implementation of various project activities, the desired goal will be achieved by continuing the pace of agricultural development in this upazila and through the sincere efforts of officials at all levels at the field level.
